When life gives you lemons, hop on the elliptical!

I can't remember if I mentioned this before, but Dean's car is on it's way out. the lights- ALL the lights- have completely stopped working because some switch got fried. Normally, this would not be a big deal right? Just slap a new switch on there, problem solved. Well being as he drives around an '81 Subaru that looks like a roller skate and smells like rat piss in the summer (some rats built a nest under the hood before he bought it), the switch we need won't be here till a week before Christmas. So we are down a car for two months. I say the hell with it, junk the whole thing and we'll start saving for a new car.

In the meantime, I will be rediscovering the joys of public transportation. When I lived in California the bus was my only option, and I grew pretty familiar with the routes and transfers and lightrale and train and all that. When I moved to Colorado, I was living in Longmont, where the buses ran 9-5, Monday through Friday. I got my licence within a year of living in Colorado and have been driving ever since.

I really don't like to drive. I get bored, I get sleepy...I just plain don't like it. Part of it is I've been driving an automatic transmission for the past two years after yeats of driving a stick shift, so I feel less engaged, less in control. Another part is I've been in four accidents, all of which were my fault, so I'm a bit of a nervous pervous on the road. Winter is almost here and I hate driving on icy roads. I hate spending money on gas.

So anyways, the whole point of this post was how one car is forcing me to exercise. Being that I work in a facility that has a huge gym on site, I now have no excuse not to work out on my lunch break. I can only squeeze in 30-45 minutes, but 30-45 minutes 5 days a week is better than zero minutes, seven days a week. On the days i take the bus I will be hoofing it to and from bustops, which could add up to about a mile of walking every day. The best part is my work reimburses an RTD pass, so I can travel for free!

Of course, I am going to carpool with Dean as much as possible. Colorado can get colder than a witch's titty in January and February, and I don't relish the thought of hanging out at a bustop for any amount of time during those cold snaps and blizzards.
